Vocational Tracks
The WSTU vocational department is dedicated to providing hands-on training and education across various vocational tracks. With a small, but effective teaching team of five staff members, the department maintains an impressive student-teacher ratio of 1:2, ensuring personalized attention and support for each student while preparing them with job related skills for their future.
Vocational Tracks Offered:
1. Graphic Design: This track focuses on teaching students the principles of design, digital art, and visual communication, preparing them for careers in advertising, marketing, and media. Students have hands-on experience with the Epilog laser engraver, Stratasys 3D printer, Roland UV printers, and Forest CNC machine, giving students the ability to create products.
2. Forklift Operation: Students learn the essential skills and safety protocols for operating forklifts, which is crucial for jobs in warehouses, construction sites, and logistics.
3. Skid Steer Operation: This program trains students in the use of skid steer loaders, equipping them with the skills needed for construction, landscaping, and agricultural industries.
4. Long Hauler: This track prepares students for a career in trucking and logistics, covering essential skills for long-distance driving and vehicle maintenance.
5. Reach Lift Simulator: Students gain experience in operating reach lifts through simulation, which is beneficial for careers in warehousing and distribution.
6. Welding Simulator: Students using a welding simulator gain hands-on experience in welding techniques and safety practices without the risks associated with real welding. The simulator allows them to practice various welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, enabling them to develop precision, control, and an understanding of material properties. This immersive experience helps prepare them for real-world welding applications in a safe and effective manner.
7. Certificates: ServSafe, First Aid, CPR and OSHA, and over 30 micro-certifications
8. Careers- Still in infancy phase of development, but will be through the SmartFutures online career platform.
The WSTU vocational department aims to equip students not only with practical skill, butt also with the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in their chosen career paths.
