COVID Update 1-10-2021

Good afternoon,

I hope this message finds you healthy and in good spirts during these most difficult times.  The district is well aware of the stress that the recent civil unrest, and the COVID-19 pandemic has on our community, but hope to return back to some sort of normalcy tomorrow morning when we get back to face-to-face learning.  It is our goal to return and stay opened for the foreseeable future; although, this will depend on all of us.  I plan to review district expectations in this message and will also post this update on the website and Facebook page for easy access.  If you have questions about this message or the expectations - I will be in the office all week.

Face Coverings

While on campus it is our goal to have everyone wear a face covering.  A face covering could be a mask or face shield that covers the entire face.  While on campus students and staff will be able to take mask breaks during the day from time-to-time when they are outside or physically distanced.  We are also upholding the Governors travel guidance and will quarantine all students and staff who travel out of state for more than 24 hours, please notify Michelle Austin if your family have plans to travel.

To ensure our success in disease mitigation, it is our goal to not only wear face coverings, but to circulate fresh air, physical distance students & staff as much as we can, and wash hands frequently during the day.  To support these initiative, we ask that you dress your child for outside activities and colder than normal classrooms, we are planning to go outside for recess and open windows to circulate fresh air.

Expectations for Sick Students and Staff

During the next few months it is imperative that we do our best to keep COVID out of our district.  We expect all students to stay home and contact Michelle Austin when sick – we will follow all HIPPA guidelines, but it our reasonability to track all potential COVID outbreaks.  You MUST err on the side of caution and stay home if you have a cough, fever or other COVID related symptoms.  The school nurses have posted an easy to follow COVID related guide on our school website, please check it out.

Day to day Operations

The Elementary School Cafetorium will be open and staffed at 7 AM for student drop.  In addition, we are encouraging parents to drop off and pic-up their children in an effort to reduce the number of students riding the busses and vans.  While on campus we are reducing small and large group interactions and utilize staff to help wipe down high traffic areas.  Remember that lunch and breakfast is still free to all students.  We are expanding our lunch and breakfast areas to spread out the students and ensure that they are six feet apart while they are eating.

Our main goal this week is to reorient the students back into the district.  Teachers will be differentiating their instruction to help some student’s get caught-up, reteach important concepts, and provide learning opportunities for all students.  To help support their success, we will be moving to a one-to-one approach, this means that the all student’s will keep their Chromebooks and take them back and forth from home to school each day.  While at home we expect the children to use their Chromebook to support their learning, charge the Chromebook batteries before going to school each day, and wipe the technology down using a mild disinfectant to keep them clean.

Have a great day!
