Your baby begins learning at birth, and the A-C Valley FIRST Program can help you give your baby the best possible start in life. FIRST is a free and voluntary early learning program for parents with children birth to age three.
How you and your child benefit from FIRST:
-
As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher. We can help you prepare for your child’s future success in school.
-
Research shows that participating children are more advanced than other 3-year-olds in language , social , motor, and intellectual skills.
As a FIRST participant, you will receive the follow services:
-
Personalized home visits by one of our four certified parent educator, specially trained in child development and eager to help you give your child a great start.
-
There are group meetings once every two months with other parents, where you can share parenting experiences and talk about topics that interest you.
-
Information about child development, ways children learn, constructive play, effective discipline, and more.
-
Access to a network of special services.
The FIRST Program believes:
-
All families have strengths.
-
All parents want to be good parents.
-
All families need support. The kind of support is determined by the needs of each family.
-
Parents are their child’s first teachers. Information on child development helps them in this role.
-
The family is part of the community. Support is provided through links with community resources.
