Dear Parents and Community Members,

Five years ago, on January 8, 2002, President George W. Bush signed into law Federal legislation that enacted No Child Left Behind (NCLB).   This broad mandate has changed the educational focus of schools not only in Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District , but throughout our nation.   From that point forward, all public schools in the United States began to refocus their educational missions in order to meet the intent of this law that mandates 100% proficiency for all students in reading and mathematics by the year 2014.

The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District views No Child Left Behind as an opportunity to improve our education delivery system and focus on the important goal of improving student achievement.   By using tested educational methods, district teachers, support staff, and administrators are continually refining our instructional methods to ensure that all of our students achieve this lofty goal.

As required by the NCLB law, all public school districts must send a yearly report to the residents of their local school community detailing student progress for the past year.   The 2007 Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District report card was prepared by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and shows the up-to-date progress of the students in our district.

I encourage you to take a moment to read this report and review the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) information for the students in our elementary school and high school.   You will see that progress is being made, which demonstrates that everyone in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District is working to meet the challenge of NCLB and, at the same time, helping all students to become proficient in reading and mathematics.
